| Brief History / संक्षिप्त इतिहास | The site was discovered by the curator of the Prehistory Museum, Poondi D. Thulasiraman . It was then studied by Pappu 1996, 2001 who established the stratigraphic sequence, and carried out sedimentological analysis of the archaeological horizons and analysis of the lithics. It was excavated by the State Department of Archaeology, Government of Tamil Nadu Gurumurthi 2006 . |

The site of Parikulam lies to the south of the Allikulli channel and forms a small depression bounded by the outliers of the Allikulli hills rising to an elevation of 113 m AMSL. Bedrock consisting of Satyavedu sandstones, is capped by ferricretes containing Acheulian to Middle Palaeolithic tools. The site in important as it preserves possible occupation horizons. Layers are distinctly differentiated and pedogenesis has occurred. Detailed studies of lithics and stratigraphy may be refered in Pappu 1996, 2001 . |
