This was recorded by Banerjee as comprising GDM-2, located near Gudiyarm village on the slope of the fields. He noted an upper horizon of loose brownish soil and a lower layer comprising a pebbly gravel with artefacts, and which was largely ferruginous. At the base of the sequence, light brownish clayey-shale was observed. He observed flake tools, also comprising unfinished handaxes, cleavers, choppers and cores. The upper part of the pebbly deposit and the top layer yielded mixed types of tools including partly worked flakes, points, scrapers, handaxes, cleavers and blades. Artefacts were later studied by Jayaswal 1978 . Later studies by Pappu 1996, 2001 at a well section in Gudiyam village indicated a 3 m thick laterite, overlying shales and capped by a ferruginous gravel comprising a 1.5 m thick bed of pebbly-cobbly gravel in a ferruginous matrix 2.5 YR 5 8 . |
