At Alapakkam, artefacts are in the context of a gravel derived from the Satyavedu Formation conglomerates At Alapakkam Quarry in a 2 m stratigraphic sequence observed, artefacts occur in around 20-50 cm thick deposit of ferricrete pebbly-cobbly gravel, overlying a Cenozoic laterite profile and in the vicinity of a coarse cobble to boulder sized ferruginous gravel. The site is intensely quarried with artefacts eroding out from quarried sections. Artefacts were intensely patinated owing to the ferruginous matrix noted. |
