| Description / विवरण | The deity is seated in pralambapada asana with both legs pendant. The feet are placed apart and rest on a plain pedestal. Both the hands rest on the knees. Her left hand is damaged slightly but otherwise the image is in a remarkable state of preservation. She is wearing an ankle length sari. Its folds are depicted on the legs by incised diagonal lines, and in between the two legs, by vertical lines. The lower hem has been depicted by a ridge. The upper garment or uttariya has not been shown. The deity is adorned with a profusion of ornaments. These consist of large disc-like decorated ear-rings,a round pendant on the forehead benda held in place by means of strings going round the head, thick armlets and bracelets and bangles reaching up to the elbow and big round anklets. She is also wearing three necklaces, a short one made of beads followed by a wide collar like necklace and finally a long necklace which falls in between the breasts and is made of round beads with an oblong pendant. The absence of an elaborate girdle so common in the female figures of the Kusana period is striking. The hair is tied at the top of the head and is shown falling on the shoulders just behind the ear-rings. The face is fleshy with bulging cheeks and a prominent round chin. The arched eyebrows start from the bridge of the nose. Just above the eyebrows are incised lines which emphasize the eyebrows. The eyeballs are slightly bulging and the wide open eyes with prominent pupils gaze at the beholder. The nose is not very sharp but the nostrils have been depicted beautifully. The face has a smiling expression and the lower lip protrudes slightly. Incised lines depict the skin folds of the navel is lightly marked. |
