| Description / विवरण | |
| Description / विवरण | Sometime around 1950 these plates were discovered, while digging the earth near a Siva temple called the Pariharesvara-devalya in the village of Dubi, about three miles from the Pathsala in Barpeta District, Assam. It records that the king Bhutivarman Bhaskarvarman s great-grand father of Kamrupa presented a charter to certain Brahmins, and after it was lost the king Bhaskarvarman re-issued this to those Brahmins again. Originally the charter consisted of 6 plates of which the earlier 5 plates are now available. In the available plates there are altogether117 lines of writing. The charter contains a long list of the kings along with the queens of the Varman line of rulers. The description of land is not found because of the loss of the last plates. This is the earliest of all the copper plates issued by the king of Kamrupa early Assam . A ladle shaped lump of bronze containing the seal has been attached to the bundle of Dubi copper plates. The surface of the seal is oval . On the upper part of it is countersunk the figure of an elephant to front.About two-third of seat below this royal emblem is covered by the legend in 11 lines, there being a straight line demarcating the figure of the elephant and the legend. The seal contains the genealogy of the early Kamrupa Kings from Pusyavarman 4th century to Bhaskarvarman. 7th century |
