| Description / विवरण | |
| Description / विवरण | Standing Buddha. The head is missing, and the right hand broken off. The Buddha is shown standing, the weight of the body on the right leg. In proportion the legs are longer than the torso. He wears an antaravasaka and a samghati, one end of which is held in the left hand which is raised almost to the level of the shoulder. This posture is rather unusual in Buddha images from Sarnath where the hand is generally lowered, but is reminiscent instead of Amaravati and Ajanta and also later Pala sculpture of the 8th-9th century from Nalanda. The samghati also flares out at the side of the left leg in a peculiar manner clinging closely to the thighs almost up to the knees. The legs of a kneeling devotee are visible near the Buddha s feet |
