| Description / विवरण | The biggest image in the Narakasura group of images in the present icon of Indra. The priceless image in bronze is also the most beautiful in the group. Here the deity is shown riding on his vahana, Airavata facing front. He is seated astride on the vahana. The right hand of the god is held in varadahasta mudra resting on the right hand while the left hand is in abhayamudra. He is flanked by two female chauri bearers. Both the figures stand each on a padma so also Airavata. The ankusha is placed on the back of the Airavata, just in front of the god. Bellow the figure of Airavata, the doner is noticed. Behind the figure of Indra a round splendid prabha is arranged on an adhara frame . Above the prabha a chattra is depicted. This type of bronge image of high standard representing Indra is very rare in India. The bearer of pala out feature, this piece of art can be placed in c. 10th-11th cent. AD. |
