| Description / विवरण | The sculpture depicting king Narasimha-1 worshiping a Linga-Purusottama-Mahinsamardini trinity in front of a pavilion crowned by a Khakhara-shaped roof. The deities are placed on two pedestals supported by legs carved as viralas, purussottama and the linga sharing the same pedestal. Mahinsamardini is on the right and placed in front of the pidha mundi while Purussottama is placed against a semi-circular arched miniature shrine Narasimha stands facing the trinity. He is richly ornamented and has a moustache. Both of his hands are broken. His priest guru, holding a bowl in his left hand right hand broken stands in front of the trinity and faces Narasimha. Facing the king and flanking either side of the chief priest are two other priests holding flagmast in their left hands. Though mutilated, the iconography of four-armed Mahisamardini is in the fully developed form. The deity is depicted as killing the demon with a trisula held in her two lower hands. The sword whe holds in her upper right hand is also visible but her other attributes have disappeared. The demon is depicted as issuing from the truncated body of the buffalo and fighting with a sword and shield. In the image of Jagannath, there is the outline of round eyeballs besides the depiction of eyebrows. The deity holds a sankha in the right hand and charka in the left. In this panel Siva is depicted in the phallic form. |
