| Description / विवरण | The secenes are placed in panels formed by Indo-Corinthian pilasters with square tapering shafts. They progress from the right ot the left, in the order of pradaksina, and undoubtedly decorated the base of a stupa. In the panel on the right is the Buddha, seated with the right hand raised in abhaya mudra the left holding an unidentified object. It would appear that on either side are monks (or one monk performing pradaksina) serving the Buddha from bowls which they carry in their hands. The next panel shows the Buddha, right hand raised in abhaya mudra, discoursing with a monk who holds what appears to ba a roll of paper. on his left is the bearded Vajrapani, wearing a toga which leaves the chest bare. To the extreme left is the well known representation of the monkey offering a bowl of madhu to the Buddha. The animal is first seen to the left of the Master and then again to the right. The Buddha, nimbate, is seated under a tree with a lay attendant on either side. He holds the gifted bowl of madhu in the left hand. |
