| Description / विवरण | Seven copper plates together with a seal was discovered from under the center in 1912A.D.in the village Nidhanpur of Pan cakhanda Pargan 257 , within Beanib 257 z 257 r thana of Sylhet district of Bangladesh. The discover Shekh Masharraf, sold the plates and the seal to different persons. The first, second and the seventh plates were purchased by Babu Pabitra Nath Das,a local Zamindar and by him were handed over to Raisaheb Dinanath Das of Silchar and were finally received and deciphered byPadmanath Bhattacharrya, Guahati. During the period 1912 to 1915 A.D. three more plates, viz. the third, the sixth and one which may be earlier the fourth or the fifth were recovered. Now the fourth or the fifth and the sixth plates measuring 15.5 28.2cms are preserved in the Assam State Museum, Guwahati and the first, second, third and the last plates and also the seal are reportedly available with the son of Late Babu Pabitra Nath Das of Sylhet, Bangladesh. By this CP grant, a lot of revenue free land was granted to more than 200 Brahmins belonging to more than 40 Gotras in the Mayurasalmalagrahara, belonging to Candrapuri Visaya. But the location of this particular plot of land is precisely not known.A Visaya means a district belonging to a mandala, which again belongs to a bhukti i.e., a province . In the Nidhanpur C.P. grant, nothing is told about the bhukti and mandal, corresponding to the Chanrapuri visya. But the identification of the location of the Chanrapuri visya is vitially connected with the question of the extent of Kamarupa, during the region of Bhaskarvarman. Though both Nidhanpur and DubiCopper plates belong to 7th century and they were issued by one king Bhaskarvarman, yet style of the letters of the inscriptions are completely different from each other. |
