| Description / विवरण | It is an oval shaped terracotta architectural fragment made of coarse-grained red clay. The motif is of a dancing peacock flamboyantly displaying its plumage signifying to attract a mate for breeding. There are vegetal patterns around the fauna implying that it is prancing in the forest which usually occur during the monsoon season. The fragment has a convex profile, The fanned feathers cover the entire terracotta plaque. It is a common bird to be found in Indian landscape however, it is not native to the North-east Indian region and mostly found in dry areas. Hence, the presence of such motif indicates the foreign influence on local art. Apart from being the assigned vahana of Kartiyeka and Saraswati, its symbolism vary region and belief wise. |
