Description / विवरण
This is an Aureus hammered gold coin of Septimius Severus of the Roman Empire with a value of 25 Denarii and was used in the years 195-196 CE. On the obverse, the head of Septimius Severus, laureate, facing right can be seen, with the legends from left to right, clockwise, in Latin- L SEPT SEV PERT AVG IMP VII, meaning, Lucius Septimius Severus Pertinax, emperor (Augustus), supreme commander (Imperator) for the seventh time. On the reverse, Victory, winged, draped, advancing left, holding wreath in extended right hand and palm sloped over the left shoulder in the left hand, with a surrounding legend, in Latin, from left to right, clockwise, that reads- DIVI M PII F P M TR P III COS II P P, which translates to, son of divine Marcus Pius, high priest, holder of tribunician power for the third time, consul for the second time, father of the nation.
