| Description / विवरण | Kirtimukha is one of the auspecious and common motif found depicted on the gopura,as apex part of prabhavali of sculptures and on the pediment of temples.This is part of a kirtimukha.The extant portion depicts the face having two protruded eyes with spiral like eye brows which terminates in conical shape, two short ears set sideways at the top,wide nose with nostrils arranged sideways and wide opened mouth all adding to the ferocious look of the mythical animal motif.A thin coat of whitish encrustration on the surface is noteworthy.May be ascribed to early chalukyan period. |
