| Description / विवरण | This is part of a sculpture depicting slaying of buffalo demon Mahishasura by goddess Durga. The extant lower portion of the panel depicts only the buffalo demon and part of left leg of the goddess firmly stamping the back of demon.The mouth of buffalo with its head turned backwards is held by the goddess evident from faint impression of fingers.The animal having curved horns has a stout and short body. The front right leg is lifted up as though in pain and the folded hind legs rests on the ground probably in submission.On stylistic grounds this relief may be ascribed to early-chalukyan period. |
