Description / विवरण | |
Description / विवरण | This is part of a decorated frieze depicting relief of Sarasvati and Ganesha, both are shown seated on a lotus in sukhasana which rests on a simple pedastal, containing low reliefs of swan and rat, the celestial vehicle of the dieties respectively. Sarasvatihas four arms is depicted within the background of a triangular prabhavali profusely decorated with scrolls having a elaborate kirtimukha above it.The right upperhand holds goad whereas lower right hand is in abhaya posture. The left upper hand holds noose and the left lower hand holds a book.Having a bead designed halo behind, the head carries a kirita makuta. She is bejewelled with karnakundala, kanthahara, vakshahara, skandhamala, keyura, kankana, nupura and padasaras. A lenghy garland suspends from the left shoulder and passes across the right thigh. She wears antariya held by a katibhanda.Frills of lower garment suspends down between the folded legs.Srivasta mark on the forehead is noteworthy. The round face, wide opened eyes with bow like thin brows, pointed chin, sharp nose and lips both partly damaged exhibit superb workmanship of late-chalukyan artists.Exhibiting similar background frame Ganesha wears a crown with finial like top and circular band at the bottom of crown. Fan like ears have folded features and the eyes are set obliquely. He carries battle axe and broken tusk in his upper and lower right hand respectively whereas left upper hand holds a flower and the left lower hand is missing. The trunk is turned to left, obviously sniffing the modaka bowl usually shown in the left hand.He is bedecked with ornaments such as vakshahara, keyura and serpent is tied around the pot belly as udarabandha.Lower garment frills suspends between the folded legs. A bead designed garland suspends from the left shoulder. On stylistic grounds this panel may be ascribed to late-chalukyan period. |
