| Description / विवरण | This is part of a ceiling panel depicting Agni, god of fire and lord of south-east direction,along with his consort svaha,seated on a Ram, his celetial vehicle. The relief with eroded surface, exhibits both in almost frontal position upto the trunk and the right side limb in side profile.Agni wears a kiritamakuta and the austere halo shown behind head is noteworthy. Faint imressions of ornaments worn by him include karnakundala,vakshahara,keyura and nupura.Antariya is held by a katibandha.Similarly behind the head of his consort is a roundish halo, she is bedecked with ornaments and the frills of her antariya is prominently displayed.Their status is highlighted by depicting relief of paraso labove their head.Celetial vehicle Ram is depicted with bent front legs in a moving posture and decorated with ornaments. It has elongated ears but the horns are short. Agni holds the reign in his left hand.The dwarf figure at the front appears blowing a samkha conch whereas the pot bellied figure at the rear is shown holding a sword in the right hand and he wears a vakshahara.Details of figure at the left bottom corner is not discernible. On stylistic grounds this relief may be ascribed to the early chalukyan period. |
