Description / विवरण | In this stele siva is depicted as Tripurantaka. This form was assumed by Siva to vanquish the might of three Asura chieftains. He is eight-armed and stands in a chariot. The frontal face of the chariot has a wheel with multiple spokes and drawn by two horses and Brahma is shown as the charioteer.Relief of a female figure Parvati is depicted in the hind part.He is three eyed and his braided hair is coiled up as crown or Jatamakuta which is decorated with floral crest in the centre. He is bedecked with ornaments such as karnakundalas, vakshahara, keyura, kankana and udarabandha.Similar ornaments are worn by Brahma and Parvati also.Siva wears a upavita and the multiple layered antariya with a knot at the right thigh is held by a beaded katibandha having a bow like knot below the navel. He stands in almost tribangha posture with his left leg firmly planted straight whereas bent knee of right leg indicates transfer of body weight due to pulling of the string of bow before the release of arrow. The right lower arm is in abhaya posture ,the second arm is holding a mace, third arm with bent fore arm is holding the sring and arrow whereas the upper most right hand is holding a sword. The left uppermost hand holds shield, second hand holds bow, third hand is thrown across in a swing or dolahasta and the hand points downwards whereas the left lowermost hand holds a snake. The three casteles of demons is shown in relief at the left top corner of the main figure. This relief is marked with elements of subtle expression, elegance, delicacy and fluency of treatment which are essentially hallmark of early chalukyan sculptors. |
