Description / विवरण | |
Description / विवरण | Panels with dwarf figures in relief were invariably used for decorating the basement or lintel of early chalukyan temples. In this frieze three obese dwarf figures are depicted within a pilastered triangular frame. They wear a typical roundish head gear and ornamented with vakshahara and kankana. All three are in almost squatting dancing posture and wear a lower garment. The first figure to the left is holding some object on the head. The central figure is shown blowing a conch whereas the figure to the right is beating a small drum in both the hands. On stylistic grounds this decorated frieze of three dwarfs may be ascribed to the early chalukyan period. |
