| Description / विवरण | This is part of a gavakasha member usually hoisted on the pediment of a temple. The chaitya window motif frame accommodates a central depression which delineates a relief of four armed siva, probably as Dakshinamurti seated in sukhasana.His braids of matted hair is coiled up like a crown and bound together neatly with a band at the middle. In the right upper hand he holds what appears to be pot like object nector whreas left upper hand holds a snake.The right lower hand holds pustaka and the elbow of left lower hand is placed on the top of the knee and the fingers are spread out and pointed downwards.A dwarf male figure seated to his right and a female figure to his left is noteworthy.He wears a kundala in the right ear and the left ear is adorned by a flat ornament probably of conch-shell.He is decorated with ornaments such as Kanthika, keyura,kankana and vakshahara.The lower garment is held by a katibandha and upavita suspends from the left shoulder.Part of uttariya rests on the right lower arm.The beaded frame encloses relief of two beaded circles with festoons emanating from them. Face is much eroded. On stylistic grounds image may be ascribed to the early chalukyan period. |
