| Description / विवरण | In this image goddess chamundi is depicted seated in virasana where right leg is shown kept firmly on the head of a female figure and the left leg is folded near the thigh.She has four hands and holds trisula and khadga in the right hands where as extant left upper hand holds a damaru.Fore arm of lower left hand is missing.She wears a kirita makuta with a decorated band at the bottom and with conical top. She is bedecked with jewels such as karnakundalas,four stringed vakshahara and a chennavira with a floral pendent, and the antariya is held by a multiple stringed katibandha.From the central knot of the kati flows down mutiple frills of the antariya arranged like a fan which in turn is adorned with five nara mundas. Other ornaments worn include keyura,kankana,nupura and padasras.On the facing of asana relief of a human head and lion with raised right paw and uplifted tail terminating in a circle is depicted. The image provided with a prabhavali is decorated with pilasters and scroll terminating at the apex with a kirtimukha wherin makaras are shown coming out from its mouth. On stylistic grounds image may be ascribed to Vijayanagara period. |
