Description / विवरण | |
Description / विवरण | This elaborately designed and decorated dormer gavaksha originally appears to have been used as a pediment of shikhara of one of the temples at Badami. On the border a series of curved mouldings terminate at the apex in the form of psuedo kirtimukha. Two rows of beaded moulding follows the contour of base of edge and the semi circular depression at the centre and reaches upto the top forming the shape of a chaitya window. The central depression is relieved with a four armed Narasimha seated in maharaja-lilasana.The relief is eroded and the details are not discernible, however faint impression of armlet, lower garment and calmness shown in the face is noteworthy.Stylistically this relief may be ascribed to the time of early chalukyas of Badami. |
