Description / विवरण | Adhistana of early temples built during the early-chalukyan period at Badami and Aihole are usually decorated with a layer of kapota moulding depicting kudu motifs.This fragment of adhistanacontains a relief of elephant in the centre between the two kudu reliefs.Elephant is shown turning its head and trunk to right probably to touch the its back foot.The two kudus made up of three rows of semi-circular chaitya arches terminating with kirtimukha enclose bust of a female.Her braided hair, done upwards is held by a band.Both wear heavy karnakundalas and simple vakshahara.Though surface is eroded partially, the extant remains exhibit high quality workmanship. |
