Description / विवरण | This herostone contains three registers with the usual shikhara motif at the top, is however partly damaged.The register at the bottom depicts the hero attired in a short lowergarment having stroke design, is secured by a roundish kati with probably a dagger fixed on to it.He holds a bow in the left hand whereas in the raised right hand he carries a sword attacking the group shown in front. His face and hair decor is obliterated. He wears graduated bead hara as ornament.Of the four male figures to his left three are holding bow at the hero whereas the fourth figure is turning his face to left.They wear undergarment tied with kati,kundalas and the strands of hair is combed.Depiction of male figures in relief on the side border of the frame is noteworthy.The middle register depicts the deceased hero being carried to heaven by nymphs holding fly whisker in the left and right hand respectively and the bent legs indicate they are airborne.Hero rests his hands on the shoulder of females who embrace him from the back.He wears a crown and decked with ornaments such as kundala,multi stranded vakshahara,skandhamala and nupura. He wears elaborate antariya held by katibandha.His face is partly damaged.The nymphs are attired with similar antariya and the frills suspends down between the thighs.Their braided hair is tied up as crown and they are adorned with typical ornaments .The hero is being received by kneeling celestial male mucisians, playing different musical instruments.In the upper register hero is shown seated on a pedastal folding his hands in anjali posture before a seated nandi and shivalinga and he is attnded by two male figures standing behind him holding parasol and flywhisker respectively.Depiction of sun and moon above linga is noteworthy.The pnanel above has a relief of shikhara flanked by kalasa at the sides.On stylistic grounds this herostone may be dated to late-chalukyan period. |
