Description / विवरण | This is part of a veneering member of a temple wall, depicting a high relief of four armed vishnu standing in samabhanga. He wears a decorated kiritamakuta having three crests and a beaded band at the bottom of the crown.Behind the head a decorated halo is provided.Details on the face is eroded. He is bedecked with ornaments such as karnakundala, kanthahara of graduated beads, three sranded vakshahara, keyura, kankana and udarabandha.Bead designed upavita suspends from the left shoulder and passes across right hand.Faint impression of vanamala is noticed. The elaborate lower garment is held by a katibandha. The wavy frills of lowergarment with prominent knot flows down on either side. He holds discus and conch-shell in the upper right and left hand respectively.Left lower hand is kept akimbo and the right lower hand is obliterated. The dwarf female figure standing in tribhanga at the right bottom holding a cylindrical object may bemace, personified as Gadadevi. To the left stands Garuda depicted as a dwarf. At the top corners two pairs of flying vidyadhara couples are shown in relief. The male figure at the right upper corner holds a dwrafish figure upside down, is interesting.Despite traces of damage, this relief exhibits grace and proprtionate rendering which is typical of the Rashtrakuta artists. |
