Description / विवरण | |
Description / विवरण | This is a perforated window usually provided between niches of the outer wall of a temple or at the entance of a temple of early chalukyan period, essentially to allow light into the otherwise dark interiors of the temple. In this squarish window, four perforations are arranged in such a way that their border attains the shape of a swastika an auspecious symbol commonly used in temples. It is enclosed by a contiguous squre frame having four perforations provided at the four extended corners. The central portion of swastika and the rectangular plaques between each arm of the squre frame are decorated with petalled flowers, exquisetly carved in low relief. On stylistic grounds this decorated window-slab may be ascribed to the early chalukyan period. |
