| Description / विवरण | The nude Tirthankara sits in padmasana with the hands in dhyana mudra and is attended by a male cauri-bearer on both sides. The back of the throne is plain, and the circular halo is decorated with lotus petals and a beaded edge. Above is a three- tiered parasol on which is a drum struck by disembodied hands. From its sides issue what appear to be leaves. On both sides is a flying Vidyadhara carved against a cloud form. The central projection of the pedestal has a cakra flanked by two crouching lions, the recesses at the sides accommodating sunken panels containing images of a pot-bellied Yaksa and a Yaksi. The lotus on which the Tirthankara sits has a narrow rectangular panel in the center in which is placed the image of a reclining lady. All the heads have been broken off or mutilated. Cf. Cat. 406, Pl. CXXX, which the image resembles greatly though it lacks its refined workmanship and slender proportions. |
