Description / विवरण | |
Description / विवरण | The band sakha consists of four niches with pediments placed vertically over each other. Architectural members of this type generally flanked the stambhasakha of temple doorways of the 9th-10th centuries A.D. cf. the doorway at Parbhau, Mainpuri District, Uttar Pradesh reproduced in Viennot, Les divinities fluviales, Pl.27 b . The niches, from top to bottom, contain the figure of a man leaning on a club, Krsna slaying the bull-demon Vatsasura, a male figure with hands held below the chest, and a seated pot-bellied figure, probably a representation of Kubera. The sculpture is graceful, lacking the stiff modeling of the more developed medieval style. Cf. Cat. 251, Pl. XCI which seems to belong to another temple of the same style and period. |
