Description / विवरण | This is an image of a Kartikeya seated on his vahana, Mayura. In Indian mythology, Kartikeya is the son of Siva and Parvati. He is regarded as the god of war. In Indian art, Kartikeya is symbolised as the god of youth, energy and virility. The deity is seated in ardhaparyankāsana on Mayura, which is seen with its plumage. The beak portion of the peacock is mutilated. Kartikeya is given an unearthly smile and in meditative mood. The deity is four handed and holds sakti in upper right hand while the lower right hand holds an aksamala. The upper left hand of the deity is seen in abhaya mudra and the lower left hand holds a rooster. He is decked with conical mukuta along with puspakundala, hara, keyura, girdle and bala. |
