| Description / विवरण | A Vyala is a grotesque sculpture of composite parts of animals carved on a relief. Here, it is a Vyala of a lion carved out of a coarse-grained granite in a mid- relief. A piece of the stele is still attached to the image.Upon observation, the head of the lion is facing to its right and shown chewing on the tuft of its tail.The the body is positioned towards left. The forelimbs with visible claws and protruding eyes are shown here .The mane and the left ear is prominent as well.The contoured body of the fauna is unconventional that has a meandering shape. Despite the face being extremely deteriorated, one can figure out that its mouth is wide open and few teeth from its upper set still remains. There is a hara (necklace) around its neck. There is an undulating spiral marking on its hip. |
