| Description / विवरण | The pilaster shows Lord Buddha standing on a lotus pedestal. The left hand holds the drapery, and the right hand is in Varada mudra. A four-line inscription below the lotus pedestal in the 5th century C.E. characters, a seated devotee to its left, deers on either side of Buddha s feet and the top Buddha seated in dhyana mudra protected by Naga muchalinda. The inscription is in the Sanskrit language and Brahmi script. The inscription records that the image of Bhagavat Buddha has set up by Sramana Rahula, a pupil of Acharya Dharmadeva, who was, in turn, the intimate disciple of Acharya Maugalyayana for the welfare of all living beings. |
