| Description / विवरण | The pilaster stambhasakha has a square shaft decorated with a Kirttimukha in a rectangular panel which is met from below by a band filled with lotus-scroll work issuing no doubt, from a ghata-pallava base as seen in Cat. 482, Pl. CLXVII. The faceted section above the Kirttimukha panel is topped by a ribbed cushion shaped like an amalaka on which is a stylized pot decorated with petals surmounted by a band of flowered festoons. The heavy ovolo molding to the extreme left bahyasakha is decorated with a lotus rhizome which also issued from an overflowing pot, its undulating stem emphasized in the design. A chequer pattern separates the stambhsakha from the conventional mithuna figures, the roof sheltering one group and the pedestal of another being united by lopped stems. A narrow molding decorated with scales, representing most probably the elongated tail of a naga generally placed above the River goddess group at the base, is next to the right, followed by a winding lotus rhizome. |
