| Description / विवरण | |
| Description / विवरण | This terracotta elephant in the round was conceived as a rattle. Although slightly eroded, the large ears, the tusks and the trunk curled inwards to reach the mouth of the animal are some of its distinctive features. Apart from functioning as toys for children, such animal figurines in the round may have also had ritual significance. this may be inferred from the recent practice, where clay and terracotta images of animals such as elephants and horses are offered to shrines of village deities in order to obtain prosperity, to ensure a healthy crop to bless a difficult journey or to obtain freedom from illness |
