| Description / विवरण | This is a seated male figure attired in a samghati, the symmetrical folds of which cover both the shoulders of the figure. The nature of the clothing is indicated by the fact that it is not diaphanous as is common with most garments portrayed on figures at the site.The similar seated and identically attired figure depicted on an unbroken plaque at the Metropolitan Museum of Art New York that hails from Chandraketugarh. The figure is portrayed seated on the floor and holding the chains of a barking dog. Seated on a throne above is a princely figure, richly ornamented and wearing an asymmetrical turban. His wife stands before him and she too is sporting an asymmetrical coiffure with plumes attached to it. Both the figures are richly adorned and wear pleated garments. The lady seems to be in a gesture pacifying the man, who is depicted arguing with his index finger raised. Apart from the dog, also depicts two ducks and a monkey. The present fragment probably depicts same theme. |
