| Description / विवरण | This is a remarkable handle of a lid modelled as a parrot with eyes made of mud pellets which have been affixed on the head after the later has been fashioned. An interesting aspect of the piece pertains to the fact that the nose of the bird has been pierced. Decorated functional objects such as this pottery lid or exquisitely moulded pottery have been recovered from Chandraketugarh. Stylized pottery handles and lids were popular in early India, especially in the north-western part of the subcontinent. |
