Description / विवरण | |
Description / विवरण | Narasimha is one of the ten incarnations of vishnu and he is a widely worshipped diety all over the country.Lakshmi-Narasimha is one of the many forms of Narasimha. The presence of Lakshmi indicates that Narasimha is benevolent in aspect prasanna-saumya .Vaikhanasagama explains that the goddesses must be shown at the God's side for pacifying the fury. In this relief Lakshmi is shown seated on the lap of Narasimha who is seated in sukhasana within a triangular bordered cusped arch frame depicted in the background. He wears a karanda makuta and the mouth is wide opened.Other details of the face is obliterated. He is slightly pot bellied and wears lowergarment with a roundish katibandha. He carries discus and conch in his right and left upper hand respectively.Lower right hand is probably in abhaya posture whereas he is embracing Lakshmi in his left lower hand. His right leg is damaged.Relief of Lakshmi is also eroded however extant remains show she is wearing karanda makuta, kundala and lower garment. Her legs hang down in paryankasana. Both are seated on a moulded pedastal having the relief of kneeling garuda shown folding his hands in anjali posture. On stylistic grounds relief may be ascribed to vijayanagara period. |
