Description / विवरण | Hanuman is one of the important characters in the epic Ramayana and finds profusely depicted in the scuptural art of medieaval period . In this relief Hanuman is depicted moving to left keeping his bent legs firmly in a posture asthough he is above to take off. His right hand is raised up with palm spread and the left hand with folded fist turned towards chest and bent at elbow, rests on the left knee. His head is turned to left and few strands of hair swings backwards. He is decked with kanthahara, keyura and nupura. He is shown with lower garment. His long tail emanating from the back curving over his head terminates beyond his face and spread like a thick bunch.Behind Hanuman a floral discus or a vishnu chakra in relief is depicted. On stylistic grounds this relief may be ascribed to Vijayanagara period. |
