Description / विवरण
The medal is circular in shape. It was issued by East India Company for those who participated in the first Anglo-Sikh war which also known as the Sutlej campaign which took place from 1845 to 1846. A Sutlej medal has three clasps at the most and commemorates four battles. Obverse- It portrays the bust profile of Queen Victoria wearing a tiara. The legend of the medal has a Latin script that states VICTORIA REGINA. Reverse- Portrays a standing figure of victory goddess facing towards the left holding a wreath in her outstretched right hand. A cannon is depicted in the background while a collection of weapons like knives, sword, shield, helmet and spear head are seen next to her feet. The medal has a legend in Latin script which states ARMY OF THE SUTLEJ. The exergue has a Latin script ALIWAL and year 1846.
